Thursday Day 1 – Arnie’s Adventures – The Fowey Tour
17 May 2018Day 1: The Reality
Left home at 6.10 (10 minutes later than my personal lark had planned but passable). Decent journey down via M3 and A303 etc. Only slight problem was breakfast at a Starbucks near Stonehenge. Craig was clearly having a bad day as it took almost 20 minutes to create 2 coffees and a breakfast roll – when we were the only 2 customers.
So found the Air BNB – very neat with parking (!)and after a quick recce around the shops and a fresh crab sandwich on the quay, we eschewed the rest and set out to explore the harbour and Readymoney Cove. It’s the Fowey Arts Festival this week so we visited the Fowey RAF Yacht Club to look at the Du Maurier exhibition and book fest. Karen bought a couple of classics – My Cousin Rachel and Rebecca.
Then we set out for a wander. the esplanade was rather splendid with some large hotels and well appointed muse-type houses. As you reach the cove, there is a very large house at the top of the cliff, which we presume was Dawn French’s pad. Very impressive – will stop feeling sorry for her now after Lenny… Quick stop for ice cream cones by the viewing point 9when in Cornwall…)
Scenery was beautiful. Fantastic walk across the cove and up the cliff side to St Katherine’s Point and the castle remains. 6 miles plus – so more than exploring, I feel!
Got back to Fowey in time for a pint of Sharp’s Atlantic though we are postponing the visit to Sam’s and plan to stay in tonight with a traditional pasty and a traditional glass of shiraz
