Friday Day 2 – Arnie’s Adventures in Fowey

18 May 2018

We decided to swap the Rebecca walk in the morning for a trip to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. What a treat! It was an amazing experience. The Jungle trail was fantastic with a rope bridge walk and a mass of sub-tropical plants – almost like being back in Jamaica (without the 85 plus degree heat of course). The walks were steep but so worth the effort.

A brief stop for coffee, homemade pineapple cake and the best macaroons ever and we were ready to tackle the kitchen and walled gardens. Great history  – humbling to read about the gardeners and staff who lost their lives in the Great War. The experience is highly recommended. Then bought some Cornish beers, cheese, artisan produce and some unusual herbs from the well-stocked farm shop for our return.

Travelled back to Fowey and took the boat trip around the estuary. 45 minutes – viewing the du Maurier house and the Dawn French house from the estuary.

Returned to the yacht club to collect Karen’s copy of Rebecca, took in a Fowey festival garden and a couple of artists’ houses – and bought a great piece of art.

Evening: a quick pint in the Quay and then off to the highly rated Sam’s fish restaurant. Seafood platter did not disappoint. Rounded the day off with some freshly made white chocolate and raspberry fudge!

A great day!
